Fighterboy's post seems to confirm what I saw in the documentary. Immediate treatment seems to be the cure. I don't think it is anything that anti-biotics will cure.

If you ever have an ear injury that causes swelling, go see a doctor quickly. They can drain the fluid and it will return to normal. On the other hand, if you wait even a day or two, the swelling can become permanent!

It's possible. Have you investigated the condition on the net?

I remember seeing a documentary about the boxing/wrestling booths that used to be in fairgrounds and the cornerman used to cut the ear with a razor after a match. I think it may have been to release the pressure.

Don't try this at home!

After a busy period of intense wrestles my left ear swelled up and took about 10 days to reduce - though it remained noticeably thicker than the right one. It now swells up even during a fairly gentle wrestle. Ice compression helps reduce it within a couple of days. My GP gave me anti-biotics but it has re-occurred since since then, always after, or rather during, a wrestling session

Is this the early stage of cauliflower ear? Have I over-sensitised my ear to friction ? I had no trouble for 2 years, despite much ear bending during escapes from headlocks. Not sure if a period of not wrestling will cure it completely. I don't want to wear ear protectors, but that is the obviously safe thing to do.
