So to summarize where I think the discussion is up to (at 12 September 2021) in response to my three little questions from May:
1. Ropes are popular, especially with cowbells attached, but there is a universal preference for chains.
2. Wrist linkages and neck linkages are both popular, with support split exactly 50/50.
3. There was little discussion on a variety of linkage points (e.g., wrist-to-neck), but what there was was anti. Traditional wrist-to-wrist or collar-to-collar linkages were favored when this was mentioned.
And in relation to my follow up question, although it wasn't universal, the damage that is done to the wrestlers in these types of bouts was clearly a huge part of the appeal for many guys, with deliberate juicing in bouts getting a lot of support. Indeed many guys liked matches to include additional weapons like belts, straps, cowbells and forks. Clearly a lot of crossover here with the BLOODY FIGHTING interest group (which perhaps shouldn't be seen as just for MMA and street fighting bloody fights).
Thanks to all who have pitched in with their views, this has all been really interesting. Additional comments always welcome!
I am looking for a video from the mid to late 70s from WWF between Ivan Koloff and Brno Samatino or any match with Koloff,it was a chain match and a lumberjack. Are there any wrestlers on this sight have videos of themselves participating in this type of match?
I loved watching those types of matches to bad they don't have them now.
I prefer that a chain link the wrestlers together and that it be attached to a collar around the neck for both. If a rope or strap is used instead, then that should be attached to the wrist and a cowbell should be tied to the middle to it can be used as a weapon to bust open the opponent. The chain wrapped around a fist should be used to bash the opponents forehead and get the blood flowing, so it doesn't need the extra weapon.
All three linkage types allow for whipping and choking of the opponent, and also wrapping around the neck and then throwing them over the top rope, leaving them hanging by the neck, bleeding and desperately flailing and kicking to get out of the hold before they pass out.
Something about the chain, when it is locked on my collar, the coldness of the metal and the sound that it makes adds to the "one of us is getting fucked up during this match" mental play. Have done a chain match but not to the extreme it is meant for. Was with a beginner and didn't have much thought and prepared ideas of what to do with the chain. Wanting another match/ many matches like this. Also always jacked to a Fijian strap match between Snuka and Piper when I was younger. Using the leather strap as a weapon to severely whip and punish the opponent proves who is the Superior Man in the ring. Can't locate a leather strap though. Have looked on ebay and other sites for one. Figure it would need to be about 10-12' long. Any suggestions on where to buy one would be appreciated.
Yes johnny but a fork jobbed and grinding into a forehead followed up with sold punches, a good way to end a match and totally humiliate and dominate your opponent. I have a ring guys cum get at me!
I also like the way you think Gasmaskwa....and I agree with jerseyjohnny that the bell needs some edges....ropes aren't good for drawing blood so you need some edges on the bell to get the job done....I also have found that the edge of a good leather strap/belt wrapped around a fist can do a quality job of opening up a forehead
I prefer a chain, because I think it can do more damage if used as a weapon in the ring. Although a rope or a strap are VERY hot, too. Chains should be attached to dog collars. Anything else, around the wrists. Same place, both wrestlers.
Thanks fightjunkie. What do others think: chains with dog collars; and ropes to wrist straps? And is the damage the wrestlers can do to each other in these bouts an important part of them?
Chains to wrists......so much more you can do with chains to destroy your opponent's body, back, legs and face. Blood is a given. Not a match for the faint of heart.
Just interested in a few not particularly important things related to this group. Let me (and all the members) know your thoughts.
1. What do you prefer to link the wrestlers together: a chain, a rope, a strap, or something else?
2. Where do you prefer to have or see the linkage attached: a collar around the neck, a strap around the wrist, a strap around the ankle, or somewhere else?
3. Is it better to have the linkage in the same place on both wrestlers (e.g., wrist to wrist) or is variety better?
I love to see 2 men linked to each other because they can't escape and have to fight! I prefer the chain and I like it to be linked to the opponents wrists! So it can be used easier during the match 😈😈
I prefer the chain or the strap....prefer either tied to the wrist of both wrestlers, rope will do if there is nothing else available....and yes, it's all about the damage they do....thanks for asking

There's several Koloff chain matches on youtube including one with Sammartino but the picture is blurry. The steel cage match looks better.

2021-05-17 오후 3:11I prefer a chain. I use a dog collar altered for my wrist. I think it's okay around the neck, but I prefer wrist to wrist.

The cow bell needs to have sharp edges. Often the metal edges will be rolled over that limits the effectiveness of using it to bust the opponent open.

Make sure the chain does not have rough barbs or sharp edges on the links or you’ll end up cutting and shredding flesh during the match.
