I think Its good to have it. You never know what hapends in fight. In gym is requiered for sparring and i agree with that. But when you put it off, sometimes you can go more wild. It depends on the persons preferences but safety first.
I can have headgear on, bot I love to fight with out headgear to, then I can see and enjoy the look better, when I hit my opponent in the head and face, and see his eyen get dizzy ;-)
And he can see the same on me ;-)
Come and lets fight!
I can host, I have a gest room.
I personally do because I have had head trauma before and no need to agrivate issues anymore.
Plus I like the way it looks around the head. The combo of the head gear and gloves makes it look like a real warrior.
I use to box a lot of guys a lot younger then me. I insisted they wear head gear, to protect then from any head damage. I provided the head gear.

Almost always. It's required in the gym, plus I am "The Face of The Company" . The company, being an airline, would prefer I not look like I just went down in flames.
Prefer not to wear because it restricts your vision and feels uncomfortable, usually agree to only light shots to the head (full weight to the body though) but if opponent insists on the possibility of heavy head shots then wear them.
Actually if you've got the right headgear & fit it doesn't restrict vision if you are trained to watch your opponents movements correctly. Correct field of view is possibly an apt term.
Guys training & sparring regularly learn to adapt & view their sparring partners correctly while wearing full gear. Using the right tools for any job is essential.
I typically don't, only because I have yet to find headgear that I feel fits well. In light sparring, my reasoning for not doing so is usually to ive me extra incentive to improve on defense and head movement. That certainly isn't to say I wouldn't, of course.
I've heard arguments both ways. After experiencing my first sanctioned competitive match, it does make sense to wear it. But it takes time getting used to it. Just wished Inhad more opportunities to do just that.
Will wade in on this. Been wearing headgear since mid 70s & no biggie since wore headgear when wrestling in HS. Spar regularly & wear headgear. Having received a cut from an accidental head butt while doing body work drills a few years ago. Totally understand their use.
Even pro boxers & mms athletes use them while training. What little peripheral vision is lost is easily made up for by stance, focus & head movement. Once you get use to wearing them, it will make sense to you.
Have yet to read of a logical reason not to wear them when appropriate.
Could not have said that better. Been in head gear since I was 16 Golden Gloves as a teen. Im use to it and think its smart. We require it at UFC. I have seen permanant damage and death from not wearing head gear
I've read differing opinions about headgear in boxing. The most common opinions seem to be that they're mostly used for preventing cuts and they only slightly prevent heaviness of the blows. Additionally, they obscure the vision a bit and create a bigger/heavier head, which can cause more hits to the head.
I thought I'd ask around here instead of a general boxing website because I'm not interested in the type of sparring that they do. I'm more into fun and casual sessions at the moment; a lot of the videos here demonstrate the intensity that I'm most interested in.

I don't find that good, well-fitting headgear affects my vision. I feel very comfortable sparring with headgear.

Expensive ones dont restrict at all but mine is cheapish... About 60 bucks, works well but its a little bulky around my periphery vision

I agree. And when boxing full contact I find headgear reduces bruising - especially around the eyes.

We are. I do hate the limits on peripheral vision, particularly with the Masters head gear. But I should have sparred more with it. Lesson learned.
