I'd say a guy's back doesn't tell you very much. If the purpose of seeing the upper body is to get a good idea of how fit, strong, etc. he might be, then you really need to see the front. You need to see chest, abdomen and arms. A man can have a large frame, but that is just what nature gave him. He could be a couch potato with broad shoulders; heavy and probably not weak, but that is not enough information to make an assessment of his suitability as a wrestling opponent.
Or if we take that question more simply, a back is what we take, like in a rear naked choke, to gain a modicum of control and maybe win the match. You are always hearing that command on youtube wrestling/fights ... "take his back. take his back ..." I am just proposing another opinion.
(a) - Gallery only, Fragment (part of the body or face)
or is it
(b) - Clean photo, (Upper) body visible
... I always classify a photo of a guy's back as (a) because it doesn't really show you much. Yes, it does show the upper body but usually all you can see of any relevance is if he has broad shoulders or not. That doesn't tell you a huge amount about his general physique. A guy can have broad shoulders but not be well developed.
I had wondered why my back pic went to the gallery yet the same area shown of my front went to clean photo.... I think you can tell a lot by some backs, but I guess some "average" backs could be deceiving.
